Priyadarshini Govind
Once in dance class when my sir spoke about Priya maam that there is a lot to learn from her, there was a thought that ran in my mind What is so special about her? She's one of the dancers too. My sir added saying im not going to tell anything more further to it those who are interested research about her. As soon as i reached home that day i quickly grabbed my laptop logged on to youtube and saw few of her performances. I was so thrilled and now had a thought yes she is special. After that video i saw i had a dream to see her live.
There is always difference in a live performance and a video i finally got that opportunity she was in Bangalore Performing for the Natya Parampara festival on the 17th Feb. I made it a point to go watch her by bunking my rehearsals.
After every performance, one wonders how Priyadarshini Govind does it? Is it the soulful abhinaya? Or is it the graceful nritta? There is no answer. I was puzzled too. her performance was thrilling and a treat to my eye.
Its not a easy task to have such a wonderful stretch where her knee almost touches the edge of the stage
,
aramandi where her feet is covered with the fan of the costume the foot steps itself are hardly seen.
And clean lifts where each and every part is well defined. To maintain all these at that age is more than amazing. The depth of Priyadarsini Govind's artistry lies not just in the visual poetry created by her finely crafted movements or in the depth of her emotive prowess, but in her constant search for fresh perspectives within.
She is an artist, or rather a stylist, for whom the art is not a static entity but a supple fabric that can be stretched to accommodate a discerning mind. And it is this uniqueness that cloaks her every offering, be it a new choreography or an age-old composition.
Being a dancer I felt so ashamed of myself after watching her perform she is more than a double of my age and she can do 100% better than me. My aramandi and stretches are not even half of her. That day i felt when she can do it in that age y cant i do it now? and i started working on it n my sir sayd i do have an improvement in my stretches and aramandi.
She is more than a dancer and a wonderrful person at heart.
