Born in 1994, ‘Abhinava’ came into being with a passionate vision to make traditional Indian dance more accessible to audiences in India and across the world. Over many inspired years, ‘Abhinava’ evolved under the creative leadership of the renowned dancing couple, Nirupama and Rajendra and metamorphosed into Abhinava Dance Company.

Rooted in the Indian dance tradition of Kathak and Bharathanatyam, Abhinava Dance Company is constantly exploring new creative ways of bringing out the true essence of Indian dance. It has evolved its own distinct style of presentation by fusing ethnic and modern genres of dancing. Its musical compositions are a confluence of traditional Indian classical music with a wide range of global music that includes Jazz, Spanish and World Music. Each dance composition is carefully crafted with intricate detailing in synchronization, choreography patterns, thematic costumes and suitable light & stage effects.

Abhinava Dance Company has a diverse repertoire of work under its extensive portfolio, combining the best of the East and the West. The Company has performed to packed audiences across India, Europe, America, Africa and the Middle East.

Abhinava Dance Company today has a kaleidoscopic personality aimed towards dancing excellence. From a purely performance oriented entity Abhinava has evolved into a multifaceted Dance Company that engages in a wide range of dance-oriented activities. Beyond active performances, the Company offers regular training in traditional Indian Dances at the Abhinava School of Dance. Under the expert tutelage of Nirupama & Rajendra, budding talent is nurtured, their skills are carefully honed and learning dance is made into an enjoyable experience. For dance aficionados, regular dance workshops are also conducted at various educational & community centres in India and abroad. Studio performances with interactive sessions between artists and art lovers are organized at Abhinava’s exclusive dance studio in Bangalore, creating several opportunities to access dance at various levels.
