A very well known show Dance India Dance, which is presently having the best TRP and highest viewers irrespective of the age groups. A family fun entertainment show, a show everyone wants to take part, a show for which people live their food and water stand day and night in the queue to audition got cheap in the view of true artists and viewers.
Watching DID little masters season 3 10th may 2014 episode a Little girl who must be around the age 6-7 danced classical for the song baby doll from the movie Ragani MMS-2. A song which is based on a porn star Sunny, the song is so vulgarly pictured and screen played in the movie and danced classical for such vulgar song. It may be popular and the song may be on everyone's playlists lately but this doesn't mean you encourage your kid to dance classical for that. By doing this you may get more TRP and viewers but in a true artists heart your show gets cheap.
You are not only spoiling the art, culture and tradition but also promoting a wrong form to the views and the public. Just because such a thing is telecast on the show most of them tend to follow it and continue this rubbish form, which will lead to spread of this nonsense everywhere when it is not even a form or an art but a murder of a pure art which is given to us by our elders and transistors.
A well known and a renowned artist and a teacher who has been in the field of classical form from the past 35-40 years now says "As it is there is very less value and scope for classical these days and when there are few artists striving hard to hold it back rality shows like this are making it difficult for us to hold the art. They promoting something which is not even an art.
Yes i agree innovations and implementations must be there but not to such an extent where it ends up vanishing the value of pure art form which is been existing from olden days."
A lady in the general public who loves dance says "i love dance, all forms im not partial towards any form but im partial to the right form. I have been attending dance programs that happen in and around but every show i go when its classical i hardly see audience, irrespective of the days whether weekday or weekend. especially i see children these days who are just hooked to tv and do not even blink.
My very own daughter is no less than any other kid these days, if i watch classical form of dance that come on channels like sanskar, doordarshan, chandana, she bravely walks up to me and says"amma yen nodthaidya? idu thumba boring channel change maadu. Dance andre boogi woogi, jalak, naach baliye, DID anthadu. neenu hogi hogi nidde baro dance nodtya." (amma what are you seeing? this is very boring, change the clannel. dance meand shows like boogi woogi, jalak, naach baliye, DID. you will go and watch somehting that gets me sleep) this is been the mentlity of kids these days and when the mentality of kids are like this when such wrong things are telecasted definately such things will influence them and they would want to try them out."
A student and a performer Swapna says" we classical dancers consider the art form as a precious gift please do not misuse them by applying them to film and item songs. it ha its own respect and views please do not spoil them."
A true artist and a fan of art and culture Yashas says"if a culture is depleting these days, the main reason is REALITY SHOWS. Preach knowledge not filth in he young minds."
A viewer and a parent of an artist Shubha says"Firstly implementing classical into item is wrong, secondly making a young kid who doesn't have the capacity of understand what that song is and form is are made to dance. Such things should not be encouraged by any parent."
Nandini a one woman army, a dancer herself who has settled abroad quotes generally "the concept of implementing a classical into item is never gong to change until a song depicting a woman is called an item song. this whole culture of seeing a woman in that way as something to be objectifid but at the same time spewing out values and tradition should change. how would anyone who wants to call the songs item feel if their eldrly moms were depected that way? the male misogynist culture needs to cange. Todays youth in ndia need to change tht mindset. may be then we can see some change in the dance too."
What are the masters sitting to judge doing? Wont they know what the kids are going to perform? If they are really that great masters how are they allowing such things to happen? Why are the artists silent? Why are they not fighting for it?
Well our questions remain questions, no one to answer. Lets atleast try joining together to save our art. PEOPLE WHO FEEL ART MUST REMAIN THE WAY IT WAS GIVEN TO US IN THE PURE FORM JOIN HANDS AND FEEL FREE TO SHARE AND ADD IN YOUR VIEWS
